Johnny Steele is a drummer, composer, and educator.

Steele was born in Maryland, but spent his adolescent years in San Diego, California. The culture shock of moving from a small town to a major city prepared him for New York, where he currently resides.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Music from The Juilliard School, Steele was hired by the blind piano/keyboard/organ prodigy, Matthew Whitaker. He currently tours, performs, and hosts masterclasses with Whitaker all over the world.

In his spare time, Steele enjoys traveling up to Bellingham, Washington to spend time with his family. He is also a lifelong martial artist, having trained in Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai (his favorite), TaeKwonDo, Hapkido, Boxing, and Kung Fu. He is a fan of mixed martial arts and watches every fight card he can.

Steele is also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness among youth (middle school and high school students). He has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, giving lectures on the signs of mental illness.
